Petrino finds his QB for 2017

Since Bobby Petrino's return to the University of Louisville in 2013, he's made it obvious that he's targeting quarterbacks that have dual-threat capabilities.

In the past three classes, Petrino has signed a dual-threat passer each year - first Reggie Bonnafon, then Lamar Jackson, and Jawon Pass just two months ago.

For the class of 2017, Bobby Petrino has found his guy in Malik Cunningham. The Montgomery (Ala.) Park Crossing quarterback committed to Louisville on Saturday.

"It felt like home, and I fit right in," Cunningham said.

Cunningham's commitment is non-binding until he signs a National Letter of Intent next February, so other schools will likely still try to sway 6-foot-1, 185-pounder away from the Cardinals. Cunningham has his mind set on Louisville right now, that's for sure.

"It was amazing," Cunningham said of his Saturday visit to Louisville. "I can't wait to get up there."

Cunningham named Louisville the leader in his recruitment just days before the spring game visit, and sources indicated to CardinalSports.com that there was a good chance that Cunningham would commit to Louisville over offers from Georgia, Kentucky, and LSU.

His relationship with the Louisville coaching staff is "building" as Cunningham put it, and he added that watching Lamar Jackson's eight touchdown spring game performance was "amazing to watch."

Cunningham is the second commitment of Louisville's 2017 recruiting class, joining junior college defensive back TJ Jallow.
